Richard Chen
BIO
Richard Chen provides counsel on RIA-related matters to the firm’s clients including the drafting of client agreements including investment management and financial planning agreements and other agreements for the firm’s RIA clients. Additionally, although the firm does not handle regulatory and compliance work, Rich applies his regulatory and compliance background in relation to strategic, corporate and employment matters for the firm.
Richard is a seasoned investment management attorney with his own separate regulatory and compliance law firm who has worked for nearly two decades serving members of the investment advisory community of all shapes and sizes including independent wealth managers, hedge and private equity sponsors, and service providers.
Having come from a family of entrepreneurs, he is passionate about working with entrepreneurial investment advisers. He believes that investment advisers are best served by attorneys who not only help manage legal and compliance risks, but also truly listen to client's needs, proactively solve problems to meet clients’ goals, and save them time and money.
Following his graduation from Harvard College in 1995 and Harvard Law School in 1998, Richard spent much of his early career with some of the world’s most renowned law firms where he cultivated the knowledge and judgment that have made him a valued advisor to many in the financial services industry. He is admitted in New York.
Richard also happens to be blind, which has fueled his passion to help others in need, whether through motivational speaking or mentoring of others with disabilities, or serving on the board of a not-for-profit organization that provides free legal services to the underserved in New York City.
